Let’s talk about the Proactive….

What is the meaning of proactive?

In the past we called “taking responsibility”. Nowadays this word is very famous, especially in the industry. All manager says “being a proactive” person.

Actually, what is the really meaning of “proactive”? As we said above, it is meaning of “taking a responsibility”. Don’t wait any command, or advice. Make decision and acting.

Being proactive may not eliminate all issues, but it can help you resolve issues more effectively and efficiently and, in turn, better manage the company’s reputation.

Imagine, your manager give a new role in your company. Maybe this new role is boring, or it will be bored in the future. If you say, “I will be bored in the future, so I need a better role”, unfortunately you are “reactive person”. On the other hand, if you know this role is boring but if you think “how can you make enjoyable that job” or “how can you change your mind”, congratulation you are “proactive”.

What is the proactive process?

We understand, who is the proactive and reactive person? Now we can discus proactive process.

Proactive process to consist of 3 step.

1. Thinking

2. Planning

3. Acting

Let’s make an example and understand this proactive process…

Again we continue with first example, your manager gave a new role in the company. But a lot of people don’t like this role. What will you do?

1. Thinking

You know this role or this responsibility is bored, as well other people. But now time to thinking about change something. When you think about this issue, you can ask some question. Firstly, understand other people.

· Why this role is boring?

· How can I change, this situation.

· What is the power? (If you are CEO you can change easily. But you are not, it will be easily. So you should understand your power).

· What is you company plan?

2. Planning

You asked a lot of question in yourself. Let’s time to make a plan. When you asked these question (and more), you answered that. According to that answer, you need to make a plan.

· Short-term plan

· Long-term plan

Short-term plan is related with maybe 6 months. Long term is maybe 1 year maybe more than 3 years. So you need to understand and focus both of them.

When you make a plan, you should prepare some documents. For example, some power point presentation or infographics. While you prepare presentation you should focus on the reason and cause. You have to think about your opinion’s positive or negative effects. According to this effects, you manager make a decisions.

We prepared our presentations according the above question. Your manager accept your opinion. Let’s time to acting.

3. Acting

Acting is look so easy. But now this step is little harder than other. However you should flame out. Things may not go as planned.

Actually, if you success this step. Congratulation, you should be a new manager. When you focus on acting, please focus as below;

· Don’t rush anybody

· Don’t forget changing need to time

· When you focus one side (and acting for this side), don’t forget the other sides.

What is the proactive ways in the work?

According to Forbes, 5 ways successful people are proactive at work.

1. Be curious

Proactive people crave knowledge. They enjoy learning. They are open to new information.

2. Get to know people in other functions within your organization.

When you develop a curious mindset, you will want to reach out to people and colleagues of different backgrounds and expertise. When you work for a company, everyone is on the same team, regardless of your function. Your job is to maintain the reputation of the company. Reputation involves the smooth running of the company, which requires cross-functional relationships.

3. Ask Question

Successful, proactive people are intentional about gathering information. They ask questions. They learn what other’s concerns are, what has happened in the past and what people’s suggestions are for improvement.

4. Connect the Dots

Once you obtain the information, you have to figure out how the information works together. Proactive people connect the dots to uncover what could happen in the future.

5. Make a conjecture, and then test it

Once you gather information to help you think towards the future, you might arrive at a theory about what may occur. Consider testing your idea.

How to be less reactive?

If you are not proactive for now, but you try that. You can be less reactive. After that, you going to be a proactive.

· Be aware of the word you use: Words are significant when you speak. Words have a bigger impact on our lives.

· Plan ahead: Be aware of how can do this. Planning could be start in your brain.

· Set goals: Goals are very important. What is the goals properties? Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely.

· Prioritize: Not all goals and tasks are equally important and you shouldn’t treat them as they are — that leads to burnout. If you’re not sure how to prioritize, the Eisenhower matrix can help you.

· Learn to problem-solve: how to solve the problem instead of panicking (panicking for a couple of minutes and then solving the problem is fine too)

· Take action

· Learn to take responsibility

Conclusion

Become a proactive person — not only at work but also in life — very important situation everywhere. This characteristic feature can help your life and change your mind. When you are proactive person. Success will run with you. Don’t forget proactive people are double edge sword.

Proactive people don’t wait success, they are seek and solve. They haven’t got a magic stick. Their magic sticks are their mind-set, characteristic behaviour and their brain.
